Tottenham will lose Sam Amo-Ameyaw and Jayden Meghoma with the Under-16 duo both set to sign for Premier League rival Southampton.

Harry Kane is the poster boy for Tottenham’s academy, rising through the ranks to become one of the top strikers in world football.

Yet outside of Kane, Tottenham’s youth output hasn’t actually been all that impressive of late.

Kyle Walker-Peters had to move on for first-team action and is now becoming a star whilst Japhet Tanganga looks set to leave this summer.

There have even been departures at youth level in recent times with Noni Madueke trading North London for PSV Eindhoven, becoming a real talent in the Netherlands.

It now looks like Tottenham are set to lose two prospects from their academy ranks – and they won’t be heading abroad like Madueke did.

The Athletic report that Southampton are poised to swoop in and sign Tottenham duo Sam Amo-Ameyaw and Jayden Meghoma.

It’s stated that Southampton are paying around £1million to sign both teenagers, with Tottenham due compensation because of their ages.

Both players are 16 and can’t actually sign professional deals until they turn 17, but will initially sign scholarship deals with Tottenham.

The report notes that Amo-Ameyaw and Meghoma are regarded as two of the best 16-year-old talents in the country.

This is a major coup for Southampton and they will hope that both players emerge like Walker-Peters as a first-team star.

Amo-Ameyaw primarily plays as a left winger but can also play on the right, and he bagged one assist in nine Under-18 Premier League games last season.

Left back Meghoma can also play at centre back and played just twice in the Under-18 Premier League last season, but does have two England Under-17 caps.

Tottenham will be gutted to lose both players and this may be a reminder that young talents need to see a pathway to first-team action down the line or they will move on.
