ST. GEORGE, Utah– A man is identified and in custody after a woman was found dead at St. George home.
The man was identified as Jonathon David Cross, age 43.
According to court documents, St. George Police received a call from a woman that said her husband was on the phone with Cross and that Cross had confessed to killing his girlfriend, Lisa Breinholt. Cross also told the caller’s husband that he, “wanted to die,” and was at the police station.
Officers found Cross “in the parking lot of the St George Police Department inside a Chrysler 300 registered to Lisa Breinholt.” He was transported by ambulance to the hospital based on his “behavior” and the information police had received that he “wanted to die.”
Officers responded to the address of 2075 S Sir Monte Dr. and found Breinholt dead with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.
Upon interviews with the callers, officers discovered that they had “told John [Cross] to drive to the
police department and to put the knife down and to surrender to the police.”
Court documents state, “It was learned that John and Lisa were in a relationship and had been in said relationship for 5 to 6 years. They lived together and cohabited as if married. It was learned that John and Lisa had been in an argument and that John had used force to gain entry into the room he and Lisa shared. There was damage present on scene showing that John used force to enter the room where Lisa was found.”
The responding detective stated that “The room was extremely bloody and it was apparent that Lisa met her demise in an extremely violent and brutal manner. Lisa was also found to have defensive wounds on her hands.” Due to this information, the Detective stated that they believed Cross should be held without bail as he would be a danger to others.
Cross was transported to jail and booked on suspicion of first degree murder.
