A teenager has been arrested after a man was found with horrific stab wounds in Melbourne.

Emergency services rushed to Surrey Road in South Yarra about 8pm on Saturday, where they found the body of a 34-year-old man.

Police immediately treated the death as suspicious, with the exact circumstances surrounding the death yet to be determined.

A 17-year-old boy, from Frankston, was arrested late on Saturday and is assisting Homicide Squad detectives with inquiries.

Police cordoned off the block of flats on the corner of Malvern Road and Surrey Road.

Officers remain on the scene investigating the death.
