Will the new versions of The Jeffersons and Good Times be white and the new versions of Maude and All In The Family be black/Hispanic?

So they are rebooting the reboot of All In The Family? What a time to be alive!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 27, 2018 6:44 PM |
R1 Ha, yeah right. They'll be black as always, because apparently we only have one minority in America.
God forbid you know we get a gay family.

The daughter on Lear's One Day at a Time reboot is a lez.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 27, 2018 6:59 PM |
Wow that's progressive then, a token dyke. Ohh, how radical
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 27, 2018 7:01 PM |
R5 And of course the character mentions the fact she's a lesbian in every scene to the point her brother even makes a joke of it.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 27, 2018 7:04 PM |
Or R5 if we're really lucky we'll get a very special coming out episode followed by lots of angst then a sex change. Guarantee if the character makes it past a couple of episodes she'll become trans.
Why because the show is WOKE, DIVERSE, PROGRESSIVE and ON POINT.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 27, 2018 7:12 PM |
R7 She came out halfway through season one. Absentee daddy doesn't approve but everyone else is over-the-top fine with it. They're now filming season three. So far, no transing. They did give her an ugly girlfriend in season two for a whole episode.
I'm just tired of gay characters in TV shows who are all about being gay. They never shut up about it. It's their be all and end all. God forbid they get an actual plot like everyone else. I guess that's too much to ask of writers these days.

Lear has long been an example of The Myth of Jewish Creativity.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 27, 2018 7:22 PM |
I keep wondering why all these reboots and remakes and such are getting made right now in such large numbers. Do people actually watch them? Because it seems to me that the initial reception is nearly always very negative. I guess it's only a matter of time before the biggest show of them all, Friends, gets remade.
Have all the creative people left Hollywood?

Yes. This is why I watch mostly foreign TV shows now.

I know, right. It’s ridiculous. Or as the kids say cray-cray.

Carol Traynor, the divorced daughter of Maude Findlay, reimagined replacing Adrienne Barbeau.

R9 I know, I hate when tv shows do that

Does that mean we're getting a Facts of Life remaining too?
That'll shut the datalounge down!

Age-wise Caitlyn would be much more appropriate to play Maude herselF. That might be brilliant casting--I'd love to see caitlyn open the door and smile enormously welcoming you in.

No, hon.
Norman Lear. Look him up. He created "All in the Family," "Maude," Good Times," "The Jeffersons," and "One Day at a Time." Not "Facts of Life" nor "Diff'rent Strokes."
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 27, 2018 10:39 PM |
R18 he also helped created The Facts of Life and Diff'rent Strokes through his production company, Embassy he talks about it in his autobiography, referring to FACTS as his show and helping hire Mindy Cohn and creating a role for Geri Jewell as Cousin Geri
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 27, 2018 10:41 PM |
Norman developed shows for Conrad Bain and Rue McClanahan after they left Maude. Conrad got Different Strokes and Rue got a show that completely bombed.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 27, 2018 10:43 PM |
It's funny, because when I was in college Norman Lear came to speak at one of my classes. It was maybe around season 3 of AITF, and he said 5 would be the limit because shows get stale after that. We know how that turned out.

Lisa Welchel said that she would love to do a FACTS reunion but that "someone needs to get in touch with Norman Lear because I think he owns the rights "
Facts was his show, his idea (his daughter went to an all girls boarding school), he talks about it in his autobiography and Geri Jewell mentions Norman Lear discovering her and creating thed role of Geri for her on FACTS in her autobiography

I see no issue with rebooting these shows with new actors and new situations relating to now. Lear usually did "issues" comedy.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 28, 2018 4:34 AM |
Now I think of it, each Norman Lear show relied on a catchphrase.
God will get you for that Walter. Stifle! Dyn-O-mite! Damn it Julie. Honkey!
I can hardly wait for the new crop to again fertilize everyday conversation. It IS the New Golden Age of Television.

Maude played by Harvey Fierstein, now that I would watch.

Starring Glenn Close as Maude Findley
I love it!

Reboot them, go ahead. It's been almost 50 years since All in the Family debuted.
We have no problem with movies being remade every few decades, or musicals or plays being revived, but for some reason we think TV shows — which were once considered the most shallow medium of them all — should be set in stone.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 28, 2018 5:22 AM |
They alread rebooted All in the Family once before, with a black family living in the Bunker’s old house.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 28, 2018 5:45 AM |
Damn Lear is going strong at 96. Betty White watch out.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 28, 2018 6:24 AM |
Norman Lear's type of comedy went out of fashion after the mid 70s.
He had a minor success with Diff'rent Strokes. The problem is other than All In The Family, his shows are driven by the actors. Maude was only successful because of Bea Arthur. With Gary Coleman, there was no Diff'rent Strokes. Good Times without Jimmy Walker would be cancelled, as would the Jeffersons without Sherman Hemsley.
You can't remake these because the specific actor made that show.
