SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jordan Peele’s new movie, “Us,” won the weekend box office, pushing “Captain Marvel” out of the top spot.

The horror-thriller took in nearly triple its budget in its opening weekend.

Film critic Jimmy Martin said he “did” and he “didn’t” like it because expectations for the film were high.

“What was told to me is, ‘This is a masterpiece,'” he said. “… It is good, but it’s not a masterpiece.”

Martin said it is a great movie, though. Unlike Peele’s “Get Out,” which was a horror movie with social commentary, “Us” is just a straight up horror film.

“If you love scary movies, bring somebody who jumps and screams to the theater and you’ll have a good time,” Martin said.

“Us” is rated R.
