A new job listing has appeared on Santa Monica Studio’s website which may suggest a God of War Ragnarok sequel is entering development.
Santa Monica Studio, a studio branch off Sony, were responsible for both God of War 2018 and its sequel, God of War Ragnarok in 2022. With both being a huge success, it is no surprise they want to get started on another title in the series.
Despite narrowly missing out on being Game of the Year in 2022 to Elden Ring, it was still one of the most popular releases of the year. This was thanks to its engaging narrative, exciting gameplay and incredible acting. Now an eagle-eyed fan has spotted a hint at the game’s future.
A God of War Ragnarok Sequel?
According to a brand-new job listing on Santa Monica Studio’s website, the team is on the lookout for a Senior Combat Designer (Companions). This would refer to the companions who travel alongside the god of war himself, Kratos.
This was seen during God of War Ragnarok when companions were able to unlock their own abilities and skills. For example, players could level up Kratos’s son Atreus to make him stronger in battle. So it is safe to assume this would be the new recruit’s job.
The successful Senior Combat Designer is required to have four years development experience and is able to “drive features forward by representing them with confidence and knowledge.”
God of War Could Be Far From Over
At the bottom of the listing, one of the requirements is “knowledge of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022).” So although this news doesn’t confirm another sequel, we can assume it is at least based in the same universe. However, with the success of the last two titles and fans calling for more, it would be surprising if this wasn’t the case.
For now, it remains to be seen what this job might be for but good luck to whoever gets it!
